Final Report

We are pleased to have Dr. Elaine Seymour as our keynote speaker for the Pew Midstates Science and Mathematics Consortium conference on Attracting and Retaining Majors. Dr. Seymour is the co-author of the book, Talking about Leaving: Why Undergraduates Leave the Sciences. She will discuss her findings presented in the book and also talk about what she has found since that time. Dr. Seymour is the director of Ethnography and Evaluation Research at the Center for the Advancement of Research and Teaching in the Social Sciences. She is currently involved in a study to establish the nature and impact of effective undergraduate research experiences.

In addition to Dr. Seymour's talks, we have presentations from eleven of the Pew institutions. Topics include changes in pedagogy and curriculum as well as opportunities and strategies that go beyond the classroom. Titles for each of the presentations are found in the schedule below.

In addition to the talks, we are inviting participants to bring a poster describing strategies used to attract and retain majors. Posters will be put up in the break area on Friday night and taken down on Saturday evening.
